Whitmuir Farm is a Soil Association certified organic farm south of Penicuik.

We’re 20 minutes drive from Hillend. Edinburgh and 15 minutes from Peebles.

It’s a small upland family farm of 140 acres. Once part of a bigger estate, it retains features of the original designed landscape, with beech trees and earth mounds marking the field boundaries. Walk to the top of the hill and the views stretch across Edinburgh to Fife. We’ve recently planted new woodland and hedgerows to create shelter and increase biodiversity. The shelter belts also provide a superb environment for the Tamworth pigs. Whitmuir farm has a network of 100 mostly local households who buy the produce regularly. People are more than just customers – they visit the farm, get involved in what’s going on, and help plan what to produce. The farm is home to foxes, badgers, buzzards, kestrels, deer, pheasants, hares, owls and woodpeckers. We produce beef, pork, lamb, turkey, eggs, and grow over 40 different vegetables from asparagus to zucchini as well as a range of soft fruit. The farm shop sells the farm produce, including seasonal vegetables, eggs and organic meat from the on-farm butchery, plus a range of other organic produce. People are welcome to visit the farm during shop opening hours.

Becoming a supporter

Farm supporters pay us by regular standing orders. We let supporters know what we have available. Supporters order the food they want, when they want it, and we charge it to their account. Every three months we balance the accounts. It’s that simple.

You get fresh organic food at a good price. We grow for people we know and have some certainty of income.
