VISITING PENICUIK

Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy Penicuik and its surroundings to the full. Its beautiful landscape setting was once celebrated in verse by William McGonagall

Sadly Midlothian council, who held this recently-planted part of the conservation area –the old Penicuik Glebe in the heart of the town- have now sold it to developers to create a car park.. All the trees and planting you see here have been removed and replaced by tarmac. As visitors said this summer:  “Alas Poor Penicuik”. Penicuik’s townsfolk will do our best to improve what’s left.  Picture: PCDT
