Guitar Masterclass with Frank McLaughlin £20
This masterclass for intermediate players will cover
a range of techniques used in accompanying traditional music and song and will include
flat picking a tune and exploring chord voicings,

finger-picking ideas for accompanying voice, using traditional songs as
examples.
Fiddle
Masterclass with Stewart Hardy £20
This masterclass will explore repertoire from
seventeenth century to the present day, with a special focus on the work of James Hill. The workshop will look at bowing styles
and ornamentation with a view to their wider application and also at general

“Jamie Bell is terrific”
Hallam Foe, a smart
coming-of-age tale from David Mackenzie (the director of Young Adam).
Jamie Bell plays the hero, so cut up by his
mother's suicide he runs off to
Mackenzie takes pains to keep him
this side of likeable, as he weaves an intriguing web of mystery, romance and
farce.
Backed by Giles Nuttgens' atmospheric widescreen visuals, kooky animated titles and a
too-cool-for-school indie soundtrack,
Hallam Foe is an
impressive return to form for Mackenzie.

FIND YOUR FAMILY HISTORY

On Saturday 12th
January, John Stevenson and three other experienced members of The Scottish Genealogy Society and
the Leith
Local History Society came to a busy Penicuik CDT Open House to answer
questions about tracing your family tree. They had information about organisations and how to get involved. There were helpful
booklets on view and for sale including a starter pack. To help people get
started locally Linda Torrubia and Hugh Munro were
there to represent the Penicuik Family History Group which meets twice weekly
at Penicuik High School. Jane Kelly
discussed family tree problems and displayed full 1881 census results for
