the success of last year’s limited Penicuik Arts Trail, this was the first year
of a festival to co-ordinate events by
Penicuik
Community Development Trust, Penicuik Community Arts Association, other local
organizations and individual artists and performers.

enjoyable Penicuik concert
Tom Kane, Jane
Jackson and Penny Forsyth formed a 3-part harmony ensemble in 2003 and sing
mostly unaccompanied, traditional Scots song. Although their backgrounds
are diverse (Glaswegian, Mancunian & Kiwi)

Captured by
the fairy queen and taken into the fairy hill to dwell, Tamlin
has no hope of escape until he meets Janet. With her help he has one chance to
break the spell and return to the real world. Can she do it? Or is Tamlin fated to stay
in the fairy underworld for ever? Tamlin uses
hand-carved driftwood puppets, shadow puppets and large 2D creatures. A visual
piece with an original soundtrack by Scottish musicians and some digital
animation!

pianist Martin Sturfält
has become one of the most sought-after musicians of his generation.
Born in 1979, he studied at the Stockholm Royal College of Music and at

cellist Marie
Macleod is rapidly
establishing her versatility. As well as performing frequently as soloist with
orchestras and as recitalist with Martin Sturfält,
her duo partner, Marie is a passionate chamber musician as cellist in the Aronowitz Ensemble, and the award winning Lendvai String Trio. Trained at the Guildhall and a
former BBC Young String Musician of the Year, she has appeared as soloist with
many orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster
Orchestra, and has given concerts across

appreciative audiences over the years for the rediscovery of Scotland’s musical
heritage, for example Fred Freeman’s presentation of the Burns cycle at the
Arts Centre in January 2002, Maurice Checker & Robin Mason’s Concert for
Chernobyl at the North Kirk in June 2002 featuring Sir John Clerk’s “Penicuik
Lion”; David Johnson’s illustrated talk on Sir John Clerk’s music at the Arts
Centre in June 2005, John Kenny’s Carnyx concert in
Penicuik Town Hall in the same month, and the performance of Thomas Erkine’s 1761 Symphony in C by St George’s Sinfonia in Penicuik Town Hall in June 2006.
