Ann Steadman’s cousin Mary Bennett tells the unusual story of Doctor John Jackson and the Calcutta Medical College, his wife Maria’s parents James Pattle and Adeline de l’Etang and their many relatives, including her sister the photographer Julia Cameron. The Jackson’s daughter Adeline (Mary Bennett’s grandmother) was married in 1855 and her Parisian wedding dress was shown at the Penicuik Arts Memorable Clothes exhibition last May.

Mary Bennett’s book WHO WAS DR JACKSON? –Two Calcutta Families 1830-1855 was published by the British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia (BACSA), Putney, London, 2002
